Tall Poppy syndrome

Why is it that people seem to have it in for Microsoft, I have windows xp on two system and Lindows on two. Other than windows I do not use much MS Software, mainly due to the fact that I do not need ll thefeatures that Office offers , so I use Star Office, however if I needed MS Office I would use it, simple. If you don't want it don't buy it. Just make sure what you use can share file with MS.
I use Lindows for te sames reason, on these machines the software is ll web based, therefore the OS is of no real importnce, plus they are older machines, so Windows XP is too big. When purchasing hardware and software , do some research, find ut what your needs are. Ask yourself what you need to do, if you want to run games, then yo will need Windows, if you run Windows specific software then you will need Windows.
Bill Gates and Co have propelled the PC way further than any single Company, we have much to be thankful for, for a start we would not all be having these discussion now, why cause without windows, we may not have a need for stardock to exist, so this site may never have been created.
I learn't a long time ago, you have a choice, if you are informed enough then you can decide whether you need one OS or another and or one office suite or another.
When you see the thought that is going into Longhorn, you get an idea about the commitment MS has to their clients, forget the usual competition betweent software giants and make up your own mind> I am yet to see Bill Gates holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to use his systems and software. If your Computer reseller does not advise you, then find one who will.
As of December I am considering moving at least one system to the new Sun system, although I am up in the air at this stge, as I still have to way up whether this will be any better than Windows or Lindows. It's not rocket science. I would like to add that with the advent of the internet choices of software are endless. I have in the past always used Msphee for Protection, then one day while surfing I thought what is the olf CA up mto low and behold they have a few suites for the very situation, virus protection, firewall and the like, I downloaded a demo and found this to be very good software, so I purchased it, not much cheaper than Norton or Mcphee, just liked the way they do things, I have been using software from Computer Asscoiates, for many years now.
My point is are we picking on Bill and co because he is some bad guy forcing us to us his software, or because he is one of the worlds richest men. Hmmm

We are picking on and resent Bill because he is rich and evil. He likes to wipe out competitors. The whole feeling of Windows monopolizing the OS world is unsettling. The reality though is that the vast majority of people use Windows. That is why everyone develops software to run on Windows. The easier it is to get something, the more likely it is that people will use it.

So is that any different to any other company of its size, sadly busines is about market share, and market share drives profit. I may not agree, however my point is , is microsoft as bad as every one says or claims, how much is myth, how much is get rich by suing them and how much. As I said before much of what we see today in Vision is Microsoft. Of course there are many small pasty faced highschool students out there developing away on new projects, however many of these will never get off the ground without the support of companies such as MS, or IBM and the like. I do not doubt that they have done some pretty low acts in their times, however I is the buying public which made them this big, and as I said if you don't like them, then use someone else. As for rich and evil, well he is rich, evil, this may be strerching it a bit.

Wiping out cometitors is what capitolism is all about. Capitolism is about becoming the richest, most powerful bastard on the planet, hence the game monopoly. Although anit-trust committees have been set up to ensure that the public does not get screwed in pricing because of monopolies we are still a capitolist nation. I am positive that if the old money wasn't in a power stuggle with .com monies the anti-trust suit against Microsoft never would have happened.

Bill gates is the largest philanthropist in the world. He still doesn't do enough as far as I am concerned especially for being a self-made man albeit a theif to get there.
